Frequently asked Questions Ken Orton Gallery
What is Art?
“Art simply means that the object is manmade. With all manmade objects some are purely mechanical, whilst some are aesthetically pleasing, many are both. What is aesthetically pleasing to one person may not be to another. The human visual aesthetics is driven by the information our brains receive, and the eye is the major gleaner of this information. The perceptive eye is duty bound to respond creatively to the light rays that impinge upon our retina's either by the admiration or creation of the quality artifact. Those with a profound meaningful understanding of the visual world are those most likely to immerse themselves in art and becomes its patrons and practitioners.” ..........Ken Orton
What is Photorealism?
Photorealism is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic media, in which an artist studies a photograph and then attempts to reproduce the image as realistically as possible in another medium. Although the term can be used broadly to describe artworks in many different media, it is also used to refer specifically to a group of paintings and painters of the American art movement that began in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.
What is an original Ken Orton painting?
A painting produced by the hand of Ken Orton on canvas of which there is only one produced.
What is an Archival Reproduction?
As Ken Orton finishes each painting it is given to the art technicians of the Ken Orton Workhouse, Venice Florida where it is photographed in Super Resolution, (12,000 pixels by 8,000 pixels). This resolution is profound enough to reveal imperfections in the canvas weave, like a single cotton seed. Consequently, it can reveal the minutia of every single brush stroke. The subsequent image is then meticulously compared to the original. It's color and tonal dynamics are very carefully adjusted to make a copy that is indistinguishable from the original. To enhance its verisimilitude each print is hand retouched to create impasto which subsequently increases the tonal range of the print. In the varnishing stage, as the varnish dries it is further treated with brush strokes to echo the underlying print. The quality of all the products used in the production of these prints, (canvas, inks, paints and varnish), ensures their longevity. They will endure with the same eminence as an oil painting and will retain their vibrancy beyond a lifetime. The resulting product is a state of the art print that is frankly beyond accepted museum quality. Consequently, we grant and ensure its classification as an "Archival" print. A Ken Orton archival print is guaranteed by signature, edition number and certificate of authenticity.
What is a Ken Orton Unlimited Edition Poster Print?
Though considerably less expensive than a limited edition Archival print, a Ken Orton poster print is only produced by the Ken Orton Workhouse, Venice Florida. We do NOT outsource the printing of Ken Orton Posters, as to retain the quality and standards of our prints. The prints are unnumbered, the signature only appears in printed form, and each poster will carry Ken Orton's name, the title of the original painting, and the copywrite and trademark motif, "Ken Orton the painter of the 11th Dimension™". The Ken Orton poster collection is an affordable opportunity for one and all to procure and appreciate Ken Orton's work.
